As members of the E&E Department well know, the beloved Botany Pond has been undergoing extensive restoration since late 2022. The project was recently expanded to enhance the pond’s habitat, allowing a diverse ecosystem to thrive there, with improved spaces for human visitors as well. The extended timeline means a partial opening of the pond is expected this winter, with a full reopening planned in 2024 in time for Convocation.
The reopening is eagerly anticipated by members of the E&E department, given the department's proximity to and close ties with the pond. As department Chair Stefano Allesina pointed out, the Botany Pond “is a centerpiece to departmental events, a gathering place for lunches and always advantageous for recruiting efforts.”
